Nx-d card problem

Hi guys, my first question here, I'm a big fan of BCG! So I have recently added a Nikon Z6ii to my gear. I have tried a few test shots using a CF express card. I used a card reader connected to my laptop but when I transferred them to Nx-d for processing, the images don't appear in the editing window. No error message that I can see, just no images. I have been using a Nikon D7200 with an sd card which plugs directly into the laptop and this has worked well for some time. Is this a card reader problem? Any thoughts and suggestions very welcome. Thanks all!

Definitely check your version of Capture NX-D as Alan suggested. That's almost certainly the issue. You might also take a look at the new Nikon NX Studio. It's a nice upgrade from Capture NX-D and is ultimately the replacement for both NX-D and View NXi. It used an embedded version of Nikon Transfer.

Doesn't the camera manual tell you how to view the pictures? You'd think it would tell you to use nx studio or whatever their recommended program is? I see it is on Lightroom's compatible camera list, so if Lightroom can read it, I'm sure Nikon can.

Also to me card readers have their own magic as to when they refresh to read from the card. Sometimes you have to re-insert or switch to a different folder and back again. I'm sure there are rules, but trial and error is cool too.

Agree to drop the NX-D and get the fantastic NX Studio. But if you are solid to NX-D update and carry on. Before Studio NX I liked NX i over the D.
You can get on an update alert which will tell you if a revision has been introduced, software firmware and so on.

Thanks for the reply, I'm increasingly of the opinion it's something to do with the camera. I have tried 3 different cards (cf express and sd) and two different programs and no joy. I can view the thumbnails but can't display or edit them in the editing window. I have contacted Nikon down here in Australia to see what they recommend

Thanks for the info. I think Studio looks like the way to go 👍

But have you downloaded the latest version to update Capture NX-D? You should be using version 1.6.5. The problem seems pretty obvious - or at least the first thing to check.

I would recommend to check the operation of the card/card reader combo outside the processing software. If you are able to access the files on the card normally with the Windows Explorer or the corresponding file manger on a Mac you can make sure, that there is no problem with the card reader driver or the user role model in your OS.
If this is working o.k. then you know it is the Nikon software.

If the latter is the case and you are sure to use the latest version of Capture NX-D it still can be an issue with the supported camera models.
Back in the old days when Capture NX2 was discontinued I was hot by the effect that the latest amendments in the NEF file format could not be interpreted by the program anymore and the result was that I couldn't see any of the files created with my D750 at the time.

I am not sure about the exact timing, but it might be possible that there are differences in NEF file format with the latest camera models that the latest version of NX-D is not able to digest. This would be something you can solve by stepping up to the new Studio NX.

Let's keep fingers crossed that you finally get hands on your photos
