Official Nikon Z8 Launch And Discussion Thread

The Nikon USA live launch flagged the D850 comparisons.... Just from the lanuch and RicciC's comparison, and short lists above by ThomH...

I'm sticking to the Z9, for a couple of important reasons. And I'm now watching Used Z9 market closely

My Z9 isn't leaving the bag but one is enough. The 8 will be a nice backup and better for everyday use. Nice addition.

With the Z8 you get a smaller form factor top-level pro camera for $1500 less than an R3 (current sales pricing), and $2500 less than an A1.

And basically all you lose is dual CFE B cards, ethernet port, built-in GPS, and a few buttons (full list here).

I think that’s a solid shot across the bow of Canon/Sony.

Z9 sales are going to tank.

I seldom fill up the primary card so having a slower SD card as overflow is not big deal for me.

If you add a grip to Z8 then the weight may be close to Z9. As well buy the Z9 which has 2 CF A slots and probably better battery ;life.

Only concern for me is battery life, but otherwise looks like the perfect camera!

Finally a mirrorless D500 successor (and much more of course being full frame), a perfect camera i.m.o.

So with a grip the Z8 is larger, but it still is less expensive.

The 200-600 is (imo) where nikon has had a great opportunity for the last few years to her something out, and failed to do so.

I'm hoping they announce it later today or in the next couple of days at most.
