Official Nikon Z9 Launch, Info, and Discussion Thread

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

What is your source, RockvilleBob? Pushing the deliveries from 12/23 to 12/27 doesn't really make any sense to me. After all, not much is going to be happening in the retail world, especially camera stores, that weekend with Christmas on Saturday, is it?
Could make sense if there is a stock pile of Z9 in Japan or other location and there is a shipping bottle neck, challenge at custom in a major country, .. NIkon may want first ships to be same in all major countries. Or not ..

Nope, it's not the case. It's still listed in stock, even today.

They had some disclaimer about "given the current exceptional circumstances" blah blah, but 3 weeks? I'll wait for a local shop, I have s FTZ 1 so no too much of a hurry.

Edit: tried again, and this is the message in German:

Basically, due to "shipping difficulties", whatever that means.

There seem to be shipping issues nearly everywhere. We ordered items and paid for express two-day delivery early last week and still don't have them. I'm in Florida, and one of my tracked packages was listed as delivered, but we didn't get it. An inquiry on the tracking page showed that it was delivered to an address in Wisconsin. Wisconsin,... Florida,... I can see that it would be easy to get them mixed up!

who was the shipping service? USPS? UPS? FedEx? i have have problem w/ all of them.

How about a generalization of your source? Do they work for Nikon? A large camera store? are they telepathic? Ouija board? lol
I'm guessing that it is a retailer that spoke off of the record. My retailer of choice told me that they are getting some general updates on availability, but can't/won't share anything due to the uncertainty of the overall situation.

Reading back over RockvilleBob's post, I'm interested in the text concerning some, but not all, NPS members receiving cameras in the initial allotment, while leaving it open for interpretation that some non-NPS members will receive cameras in this same allotment. Maybe I'm incorrectly reading into this, but Nikon usually gets cameras into the hands of all NPS members first. At least that's what I garner from the NPS section at the NikonUSA and Nikon corporate websites. It almost makes me think that they aren't going to ship as many Z9's in the first go-round as there are cameras ordered by NPS members.

Meanwhile, both B&H and Adorama are still indicating a 12/15 expected shipping date. Adorama's Z9 page says the manufacturer is expected to start shipping on 12/15. B&H's Z9 page says generically that shipping is expected to begin on 12/15. I'm starting to believe that there will be precious few who get a camera in their hands before 12/25.

In the meantime, I'll just chill and enjoy the real-life drama unfolding before our eyes. No anxiousness on my part is going to put the camera in my hands before it would otherwise be. It is a bit entertianing to be a part of this very lengthy thread!

UPS for the mis-delivery. Although, USPS has also been giving us issues with quick delivery. The only one of the three you list I haven't had an recent issue with is FedEX, and that's because I haven't used them in several years. The last time I did, they delivered a package worth $11,000 US and requiring a signature when no one was home. If I hadn't gotten a delivery text and went home to immediately get it inside, it likely would have been ruined in a torrential downpour that started right after I took it inside. I contacted FedEX and explained the situation, and they were insistant that someone at the house had signed for the package. The signature wasn't any from anyone I knew, and none of our neighbors signed for it, either.

USPS honors mail holds only about 2/3 of the time, frequently late with delivery, though typically not more than a day and we get mail for other people frequently. UPS delays delivery about 1/2 the time though seldom loses a package - worse case was when travelling I order a part from RRS to be overnighted to me at a lodge. Got mishandled and never got it. Kind of ruined the rest of the trip. FedEx tends be fairly good - though last week they switched packages with a neighbor. Next day got it resolved.

One thing is for certain.... it's absolutely ridiculous that we havent heard a solid date from Nikon as to when our $5500 cameras will ship. What the hell is the big secret? Give us a date Nikon!
I agree partially and I also understand Nikon is working through a lot of logistics.Demand is high so they need to figure out how to meet it - especially if it will take weeks or months to fill all NPS orders. Do they fill these first and alienate other customers (both photographers and stores) or split the fulfillment process to send cameras to both. Plus shipping is a mess ...

Meh.... I get that its logistically difficult but that doesnt mean a week or two from the release they dont have a date yet. If they cant fill all the orders, oh well order faster next time. My order (through NikonUSA) shouldnt be held up even 1 day due to some logistical judo they are trying to pull off to satisfy the retailers.

Might be wishful thinking but, wouldn’t Nikon assume every Z9 purchase would be accompanied by a new FTZii adapter? If so, and they made the same amount, anyone who got an email that the FTZ is shipping should be in the first wave of Z9 deliveries! Again, wishful thinking.

Very wishful

i don’t get why people are so bent out of shape? i’m sure there are a lot of considerations like not wanting to have cameras show up without batteries, making sure you have enough supply so at least a handful of people at each business gets cameras, and considering the shipping situation, these things seem to make for a complicated logistical situation and one where i’m sure they want to go light on the promises. and considering how flaky the shippers are, i certainly would be cautious about delivery times. we’ve waited a long time for this camera. i don’t see why fret, especially when they seem to be trying to make good on starting the delivery this year.

- especially if it will take weeks or months to fill all NPS orders.

Ah, the great internet paranoid theory at its best (Worst).

The camera will get here when it gets here. This time last year there was not a bit of hope that any new cameras or lenses would show up for years. No corporation knew a year ago what they would have for either customers or employees a year in the future. Now the big deal is will I get my new toy this month or next month?

I think it will help if everyone goes out on their patio at 0200 Zulu every day and screams loudly, in unison and solidarity, until they get their delivery.

I've tried it and I feel much better. 🤔
I would not feel any better and my wife would think that I am more crazy than she does already (if that sentence makes sense). Rather perhaps a polite request to NPS for information about the delivery date ...

How about we all go out at 0200 Zulu and shine a really bright flashlight (torch for you UK folks) straight up in a show of solidarity? Or, instead of a flashlight, a laser pointer, in which case we might see someone close by who is also waiting for a new camera.

I'm a bit anxious, but likely nowhere nearly as so as those who had to pay the whole cost of the camera or a significant deposit up front for the camera. I only put down a $100 refundable deposit, which is less than some people pay for coffee each month!

Nikon has to know that it will take a PR hit if they don't get cameras out in 2021, so I can't see them not working diligently to do so at some volume. I'm hoping we all look silly when thousands are waiting for pre-order pickup or distribution very soon.

Nikon Japan says the date is the 24 Dec. If you read Japanese or use Chrome which will translate, here is the info

How are NPS orders treated for revenue by Nikon USA; are they revenue for the local camera store or are they just the delivery agent? This could impact the allocation between NPS and the local stores- the stores will have major complaints if they don't get any cameras for a long period while Nikon fills all the NPS orders

Z9 delivery road map, as i understand.

Orders will be delivered fairly and strictly based on the order they were received and appear on the first allocation list .......................no exceptions.

In my case If you didn't have you order in by 8th of November for the first allocation of units you would have to wait till 2022 next allocation that had no time line and could be any where up to 6 months or more.....as retail orders need and will be respected.

You will be contacted that
a) you payment in full is required to effect delivery, or that allocation moves onto the next person on the list.
b) any allocations not taken up will go immediately to retail.

Nikon's delivery allocation and shipment globally will be fair and preprotionate.............

For myself It will be what it will be.......i am not in a hurry and have all the time in the world.

I did get in before the 8th of November and paid the full order price so i assume its simply in and out.

I welcome the Z9 and will allow time to grow into the new system with an open mind, if it compliments my needs and application that's fantastic.
If not its on Gum Tree.
