Wonderful capture! I have no wild owl shots in my portfolio. I have one shot of a captive owl here in Saudi Arabia and one captive back home. I plan to seek them out when I retire back to Milwaukee at the end of this year.

They're not too hard to come by if you get up North but the funny thing is a couple of years after my most recent trip to BC to photograph Snowy Owls one showed up here for a couple of weeks one winter. I haven't seen one here since but sometimes they do come to you

Here is another Northern Pigmy Owl. I saw this one sitting just off the road while driving to the gym. I didn't have my camera so I turned around, drove home and back again 15 minutes later. He was still there, lol.

I was excited when this beautiful barn owl flew in after sunrise and landed above me. Sadly, later observations of the owl on a more exposed perch revealed a serious leg injury. The owl was probably still seeking a meal after an unsuccessful night of hunting.

Maybe report it to a local raptor club. They usually will try to capture and rehab owls.

Western screech owls are much smaller than great horned owls, but otherwise do look similar. The hole this western screech owl is sitting in is about 5" in diameter.That looks more like a Great Horned owl? and a great photo.

This is Kotori the Western Screech Owl, he lives at the WSU Raptor club in Pullman. Easy to see he is a tiny little feller.
This is at the Veterinarian's teaching hospital last year.
I took an iphone shot at the entrance but I don't know where the file is so I took an iphone shot of the print I made...lol

Thank you for the excellent suggestion. I did report the injured owl to the park rangers and to the associated zoo that rehabs local wildlife so they could be on the lookout for it. At the time I observed the owl it was still flying strongly so rescue would depend on it being located after it had weakened.
