Very nice shot! I like the almost symmetry and the effect of the brown leaves in the green grass in relation to the color of their feathers. (y)
Did you shot through a window? The accumulation of the ice at the bottom of the picture let me suspect this. It is at least for me a little distracting.

Thanks. Not shot through a window but very early in the morning in low light which gave the effect I think.

Have you considered non standard photo ratio crop to reduce the amount of negative space above the birds and there by focus the viewer's eye on the subject more quickly?
Hi. Having posted this shot here I went back to Lightroom and tried an edit just like you suggested. I will add to thread.

I prefer the first shot, FWIW I prefer the plain, uniform sky above the birds rather than the OOF grass in the foreground. I find the foreground takes my eye more than the background.

Nice that you removed the rectanglular blur in the lower right corner. Perhaps try a 16x9 crop, leaving the amount of grass in the above photo and only reducing the amount of "blank" sky................. Then try a slight "S" curves adjustment to add contrast.

I like that last one a lot. I would remove the last bit of leaf in the bottom left corner and the same right corner. I think the eye is drawn too strongly to anything along the edges and in the corners.
