Photo of Z9 leaked

I can't believe it's a flipity screen and not a swively screen :devilish: - let's see how long it takes for the internet screen wars to restart (please read this post as purely tongue-in-cheek)

As a former Nikon "swively" screen user now using the "flipity" screen on an R5 I will tell you that neither of them are perfect and outside of the ability for the Canon screen to turn around and protect the glass during travel I'd prefer the swively 90% of the time. Don't make me look left of the camera when I'm shooting behind it.

No buttons to the left of the screen?

Hence my jokingly teasing the type of screen earlier. No buttons on the left might mean the screen attaches on the left which would translate to a fully articulated screen rather than the typical flip up we have seen from Nikon.

They clearly are making a departure from the D6 body - we knew there would be no small LCD screen under the main screen, that was a relic that needed to go. A fully articulated screen would be a much bolder change. They might also be looking for ways to drop some ounces and get to a lighter body while maintaining the mechanical integrity. Time (hopefully not too much) will tell.

Yeah but how you gonna take a selfie?

Nikon know how to build the right screen but it seems they choose not implement. The P7800 has what everyone is calling out for.

Photos confirm 180-400

There is also a 2nd i-Menu button with the AF-ON and AF Cursor buttons. And Audio-Record control (next to LAN)

180-400 f4E TC14, you can see the TC 'bulge'

So, there are Z9's at the Olympic Games after all.
Does that change anything, anyone's perceptions?
At least for me it does somewhat. I mean, up to now the z9 was vaporware and the timeline was at best an aspiration. With actual cameras being tested in such demanding events, they will get a lot of feedback to finalize the z9.
it says nothing about features, AF, how many are in test, are they still testing various versions or have they locked in one configuration etc... but at least it’s not just a concept on a lab bench anymore.

I prefer tilt screens versus flip around vlogging screens. The only thing I liked about my R5 flip around was having it flipped inwards to protect it. Also occasionally it helped to get the screen out of the sun glare as I could manipulate it into some weird positions out to the side. But generally I prefer to have the screen stay in line with the VF/lens which a flip around screen can't do (unless they make a Panasonic S1H screen that does everything).

I don't think this is going to be a flip around screen. The lack of left side buttons doesn't mean it will be a flip around. The Z6/7 don't have left side buttons and don't flip around. The lack of buttons is probably just because the body is narrower like the Z6/7 compared to the DSLRs. Personally I prefer no left side buttons at all as I'm always handholding larger lenses and anything on the left is not accessible to me while handholding. The thing I hated most about Nikon DSLRs was the AF selection button being on the left front. At least with the Z cameras you can program another right side button to change AF modes.

My other big gripes with Nikon buttons/ergos is the lack of a 3rd dial to have Aperture, SS and ISO all on dials with no buttons involved. Also the lack of additional back buttons in line with the AF-ON. These few things make Nikon my 3rd choice right now for a camera and it is all to do with ergonomics. The Z9 had better bring back AF-ON+Area Mode to the custom button functions. If it stays with the current Z options it is a big fail IMO. Canon and Sony have vastly better customization and buttons compared to Nikon Z. D6 has much better customization options but still lacks the 3rd wheel and more AF-ON positioned buttons.
