Any suggestions on a good quality and functional-without being too bulky or heavy photo/travel vest and where to purchase? Thanks in advance

Hello
There's been previous discussion here about a waistcoat in connection with carrying gear in the cabin on overseas flights etc

I get excellent service wearing a Raptor, which I use for local hikes etc almost daily. This UK company has other options. High-quality products

I am looking for a waistcoat, using it during all the seasons excepted during coldest parts of winter and in warmer places too; you mentioned using a Raptor waistcoat; did you use it even in tropical areas?

Yes I do walking even on very hot days but unzipped. I see they now make a similar version of lighter material

There are many options for men, but very few for women. I have one I got years ago at a gun show. It is well made, but the canvas material is way to uncomfortable to wear in tropical/warm environments. Wish I could find one made of lightweight rip stop nylon. Something like a fishing vest, but longer with bigger pockets.

I have this vest, which I find very useful. It fits well, even over other clothes, has tons of pockets, and is very well vented. For $60, it’s a real bargain. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/196099-REG/Humvee_by_CampCo_HMV_VS_K_M_Safari_Photo_Vest_Medium.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=ba_f1_lar&smp=y&lsft=BI:6879&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt4bR5P_d_QIVximzAB1eJAz_EAQYASABEgIoG_D_BwE
^^^^ Same one I've used for years. I wear it every time I fly! With my photo backpack and computer bag (which also holds a body and lens), I've had no problems getting my gear to locations when flying.

Have you checked Columbia silver ridge series? They are good and work well in tropical climates too.

Thanks for the suggestion. We love Columbia products. Unfortunately, the Silver Ridge has fewer functional pockets. The Magellan RFID vest looks like it might be a good option, even though it lacks the mesh back for cooling.

Most if not all my outdoor shooting is in hot, humdrum weather. For that, I prefer a tactical chest rig rather than a vest. Specifically I like the stuff made by Spiritus Systems. It's modular, US-made, top notch quality and dear.

I use a Dmke photographers jacket with removable sleeves. Its profile makes it less obvious that it is stuffed with gear. The only vests that look practical for photo gear are some of the one designed for fly fisher folk. These vests tend to have mesh backs and large pockets in the front.

Karen, I run through two of these Humvee jackets, while I was mostly happy, there are a few issues bugged me:

1) the epaulettes, my backpack straps or camera straps get caught in those many times, now I promptly cut off those straps.

2) a few pockets only have velcros for closing, the small accoreies run the risk of falling out.

3) two of the pockets are two shallow.
