The rectangular crop tool, I've had it on and hit a key that keeps is on. In the past I simply click the photo and it would drop off, now it will not. I now have to change to another tool, then click it away. Have a clue which key I hit to cause this?

Exactly what I was wanting! Thank you. I'm happy again

Glad you figured it out, but if ctrl D works you must be talking about the rectangular marquee selection tool. It can be used for cropping as you said by making a rectangular selection with the selection tool then pressing C or clicking the crop tool to switch to the crop tool. I mention because the actual crop tool gives more options. If you have an active selection the crop tool applies your selection automatically, but if not you can use the crop tool options at the top and drag the handles of the crop tool or your image around.

I use the crop tool to select the area I want in my photo, then change to the rectangular marquee tool to make the actual crop.
Thanks for all that helped. (y) (y)

We're probably just using different terms, but it's all good if it works. To me the marching ants looking tool is called the rectangular marquee selection tool. The crop tool is the other one with the handles on the corners.

I have a bunch of presets for my crop tool in PhotoShop. I find it helps me organize the variety of things I do with my photos. I have one that is set for hi-res 11x14 prints, one set for average res for my website gallery, and others set for various reasons or experiments. When I crop to any preset, I save with a naming system to organize them. For instance, 1114_zoopic_1 or vb_zoopic_1.
It helps me nowadays, I have a ton of stuff scattered on disks from the last 40 years so I started getting organized rather late. 😁
best to all,
VinnyH
