Do not know what interested the bird so much, maybe just checking out the talons are all there?

What I find interesting about this image is the entire package and experience. On this day I was laying on the ground waiting for some action to take place in the pond.

A Black Neck Stilt was on my viewfinder for quite a while getting so close that 600mm was too much. So I did back off with range a bit, just as I was concentrating on the Stilt a Black Phoebe came swopping down not to far from where I was.

I had time for about six images and thought I had gotten the Phoebe in focus. What I did not expect to see upon closer inspection was the worm on his beak. On some images the twig hides the worm but on this one you can see it.

Good catch for the bird. Very late sunset hour in a cloudy day.

Because I am very low on the ground the background smoothes out into the distance. It hanged on there for a few seconds and then flew away. I was quite happy for such close encounters that day.

This series is great. I love seeing great photos of bird behavior. Thanks for sharing these!
You are welcome Lisa, thanks for checking them out and kind words! I do love the behavior ones too. I had Oak Titmouse fights too in past post. The Turkeys will do this more than other birds here. The fight can last 30 minutes or more. Think it is fight for pack leader, the pack is only 3 in size which have been around house for about a year now. Wish they would find another venue somedays, annoying birds as they tend to tear bark out of flower beds and poop in the fountain, yuck golf ball size!

Black Necked Stilt doing an excellent job of cleaning its feathers. Perhaps complaining on the lack of privacy!

I was low on the ground and quite still so bird seemed very comfortable and relaxed. This is part of quite a few images I was able to quietly capture.

Sony A6600 with Sony FE200-600mm.

Case of BACK talking? :)

I thought I share these two images, while nothing spectacular is going on, you may find the experimet interesting.

These were captured with a Canon 600mm F4 with a Canon 1.4 extender on a Sony A74 via an adapter. That’s pretty normal. What I did additionall, was first put the Sony 1.4 extender between the Comlite adapter and the Canon setup.

That gave me an effective focal range of 1176. Not the sharpest image but in good light it may offer one more tool to get closer.
