Hello All,
I purchased a new RRS BH-55 from B&H. I was familiarising myself with the ball-head when I noticed a slight movement. The ball-head was mounted on the tripod via 3/8-16 stud bolt. The ball adjustment knob was tighten and the panning adjustment knob was tighten. I placed my finger at the junction of the panning base and the body of the ball-head. I placed my hand on the clamp and with very little pressure I could feel a slight body movement at the junction. The base does not move nor the tripod's apex. I have a Swiss Arca Monoball B1 that has no movement on the same tripod. Has anyone experienced this? Is this a characteristic of the ball-head? I am calling Really Right Stuff tomorrow for some help on the matter. Thanks and have a nice day.

Just tried mine.
With the panning knob locked there is no play, with the knob backed off 1 turn there is still no play. When the knob is backed off 1.5 turns I've got circa 1 to 1.5mm of movement.
Sounds like an issue if there is any play when the panning knob is locked, hope you get it sorted.

No noticeable movement on mine. have you checked to see if the 3/8 mounting stud is bottomed out inside your ball head base? This could happen if the stud is a little too long causing the base to not tighten 100%. Try it on another tripod if you have one. Also take the head off and see if the mounting stud is threaded all the way into your tripod base. If you have a Vernier or depth mic check the hole depth in the base of the head and the 3/8" stud height. The stud height must be shorter than the threaded hole in the base of the head or it will bottom out and not lock to the tripod base..

I think, as you described, calling RRS would be the best option and see what they say. It may be easy to fix at home or it may be something they need to look at and ask you to send it in. Let us know what they say.
