Recommendation for on camera monitor for stills only - Sony A1

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Hi,

Has anyone used one to make it easier to take photos of shorebirds (or for any low level work) at eye level without having to lay down? If so, do they really help and do you have a recommendation for a reasonably priced one? Also, pros and cons of using this type of setup?

I do not plan on using it for any video work - stills only so no need for recording capability.

Thanks,
Bill G.

There are many $100 5" monitors on the market, up to maybe $400 for the better ones (Atomos). The downsides are the added weight, power requirements, and the cheap ones might not be bright enough in daylight pointing up. Also, you have to open up the side to access the HDMI port, compromising protection against salty air.
