My 2 cents: the bird is a little stuck into the corner, so maybe move him a little to the right? Also there are what appear to be two out of focus sticks protruding into the frame which don’t add anything to the image, and therefore they detract. Other than that I like these kind of simple compositions. You have a nice bit of action, and a fish in the beak adds to the story. Definitely it’s an image with potential. That new lens sounds like a load of fun!

thanks JSD - I think I still have the RAW image - may try something different. Not sure about how to remove the sticks. On the location the eye of the goal is located on the upper left 3rd of the photo - but i do agree that it would likely be better moved a bit towards the right.

You might try a composition where not the eye but the whole bird and it’s reflection is centered on the 3d. Crop is one thing I tweak this way and that, back and forth, until it sort of settles in and feels just right. The sticks could easily be removed in PS with the clone stamp tool. I bet some of the more tech savvy members could explain it better than I could. I hope this is helpful.
