Ruddy Duck

Bubble display
The male Ruddy Duck rapidly slaps his chest with his bill, forcing out air trapped in the feathers to make bubbles
then he vocalizes with a sound like a bleat through a kazoo

IDK if the hens are impressed, but other males consider it a challenge and a bubble battle begins until one decides he's had enough and chases the others away

Love Ruddy ducks! Where were you at taking these? Have you checked out the owlets in the Yolo bypass yet?

This was in the Sierra Valley, north of Truckee. One of my favorite areas. I haven't been to Yolo Bypass in a while, perhaps it's time to change that.

I was going to take a look at Sierraville area this summer. The owlets are in the tree hedgerow before autoroute tour that parallels the farm fields. Midway before the turnout for viewing/portapotty just about 100yds or less passed some rusting culverts on right side road, the nest is fairly easy to spot. Only a small area to take pics with few branches in way. See owlets arrived post May 13 for pics, last week not much change. Not sure when they will be out on branches.
