A car makes a fantastic blind and often allows you to approach wildlife at a much closer range than you can ever dream of on foot.

However, the excitement many photographers feel when they capture an amazing image is quickly replaced by disappointment when closely examining their photos. Too often, pictures taken from a car don’t display the same level of sharpness as images where no vehicle is involved.

In this video, we’ll cover tons of tips for getting razor-sharp images when you shoot from the car. Most photographers are guilty of at least a few of the mistakes we'll discuss in this video.

Another good'n! Were you afraid to drive over your camera in that opener?

Nice, looking forward to reading your thoughts. Up to now it’s been a pouring of praise by all wildlife photographers I know. It will be nice to see your take on it - you know, the pragmatic side of things :)

So far, I like it, but I've only shot with it a couple times. Too early to tell.

Another timely video! I'm heading to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons for four weeks at the end of May. I've been researching various bean bags but I really like your pipe insulation alternative. I think I'm going to give that a try and save myself $100.

The Tesla is too close to the ground to effectively use it as a blind…I've seen one and they are low. I would hesitate to drive it on an unpaved or unimproved road.

That's what our jeep is for - I'm just looking for a reason to upgrade my daily commuter :) even if I never shoot from that window! But that way I can be ready, just in case bisons cross the highway in Indy - I wouldn't want blurry pictures in case that ever happened. It would be a tragedy.

HI Steve

How much are you using the Sony vs Nikon for long glass work? Which do you prefer? And of course, why?

I haven't been doing much of anything TBH. Between my COVID recovery (I've been doing lots of hikes / other exercise) and working on my BIF book, I haven't been out shooting too much. Too early to tell which I prefer, I can shoot with either and be happy :)

I'll probably do a video or something about it in the not-so-distant future once I have more time to use the gear.

Looking forward to your video. ML is coming must faster than I (most of us?) expected. I expect big innovations in the year or two.

I like to shoot from my F-150. I usually sit in the back seal where I am able to move to either side of the truck. I use pipe insulation over the top of the window. I can also set up a tripod and shoot from inside the truck. On a fee occasions I shot out of the double sunroof.
