Shooting in DX on the Z9

I’ve been tinkering around shooting crows and squirrels on our back deck to get more familiar with all the options on the Z9. Recently I was shooting in DX and it appeared to me the animals face/eye detect didn’t work in DX. Do you know if that’s the case or if it was operator error? Thanks in advnce for any insights.

Shooting in DX mode should not cause an issue. What AF mode(s) and face detection option(s) were you using?

Both wide-area small and large engage AF subject detection. It usually works quite well for me. It should work better for you than when you are in FX mode, because the subject should be filling more of the viewfinder.
Is that actually true? I don't shoot DX but I tried it for laughs and got identical results with the 500pf.

I’ve shot in DX crop mode with tracking for several different types of subjects it has worked fine for me. Did you try keeping all settings the same and just turn it back to FX? That would narrow down if issue was related to that or not. My guess is it’s sometime else amusing it.

The same settings work in FX with no problem.
