Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge, Socorro New Mexico
Just proof there are birds in addition to the Sandhill Cranes. This tiny bird was in the thickets on the edge of the ponds where the eagles were fishing.

Thanks! Yeah they're not easy. Luckily this one was hovering just above the ground looking for insects and landed right in front of me.

Very nice Hut. I love finding Waxwings as they're such elegant birds with great colors and that jet black mask.

Here's one from a while back. I first noticed this bird and its mate while riding along a local bike path near a creek. Saw them there several times over the course of a week or so and came back with my camera gear. Their nest was across the creek but they liked coming over and hanging out on this Serviceberry bush.

I will see hundreds of them in the Russian Olive trees along the river and still not easy to get a decent photo with those red tips. Good job!

Yellow-Headed Blackbird, Sisseton, South Dakota
My first encounter with a blackbird other then the ubiquitous Red Wing.
This is a marshy, swampy area that made getting closer impossible, so I took the long shot.

Here's a challenge to the group.. I believe this is a Lesser Goldfinch, and I believe it is the male. Anybody have other thoughts???
I have images of the American Goldfinch and the coloring of this one doesn't match.

My guess is American Goldfinch Female in breeding plumage.
 
Here is the Cornell Lab of Ornithology page for Lesser Goldfinch. According to this info, their range does not extend that far north.

Thanks for searching the answer. I use iBird on my Phone and the pictures are sometimes not as useful.
