Songbirds with 800mm PF and Z 1.4 TC

A little late to the thread, but thanks to all for the relevant information shared on bcg. I personally couldn’t be happier w the 1.4TC results on either the 400/4.5 or 800pf & Z9. Just my opinion, but the use of TC’s shine for close static subjects. But maybe the rules have changed as there so good now and the higher MP’s bodies at least in my case. Here’s two photo’s taken @ less then 10m using a monopod. Also quick history, coming from a D500/D5 and 1st Afs 600f4D the weight difference is staggering!! Photos taken FX Wide- L with animal detection. Quick Lightroom edit. No crop-down sized to 2.3mps files. 🙂

A SmugMug album with some photos I took earlier this month of some adult and immature bald eagles along the Mississippi River near Red Wing, Minnesota. Often open water here, even in the winter, that attracts bald eagles and ducks.

So not song birds. And farther away. The closest eagle in these photos was around 250 feet or so (and with the camera held horizontal, I cut off the wingtips, so I decided to crop in more).

Handheld. Z9 + 800 m PF + 1.4x TC. Shot at 1/3200th and f9, wide open for this combination. ISO varied. No exposure compensation. The captions indicate the ISO and the crop I used in post. RAW HE*, converted in ACR. Topaz DeNoise and/or Sharpen applied. Processed as I would normally. So not a scientific test, but it tells me I can get photos I like with this combination.
