Sony 200-600

I use 1 or OFF. Never 2 and rarely 3. With the A7RIV mode 3 or Off was all I would use. But with A9/II and A1 I use mode 1 until my SS is 1/2000 and then OFF if I’m going after erratic fliers.

I have the Sony A1 and 100-400 GM. For birds-in-flight, the shutter speed is 1/2000s or 1/2500s, and IS is turned off (manual with auto ISO).

For perched birds, I have the AEL button programmed to drop the shutter speed down to 1/500s or 1/800s, with IS still turned off. Turning IS on would require me to reach on the lens, which I might do if I have time.

If I was in a low light situation, with shutter speed slower than 1/400s I might go with IS on.

I see a lot of people in this BCG group use IS much more than I do. I may have to reconsider my method.

Do you ever feel the need to use a Tele-convertor on that 100-400 GM? Just curious, I might decide to look closer at that lens, probably next year though.

I am thinking about getting the 200-600 G, just for birding. The 100-400 GM is a great lens, but a little short on reach sometimes.

I have the 61MP A7R4 and the 50MP A1. I prefer to crop in, rather than use a teleconverter.

I own 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. The 1.4x is ok, but the 2x drops the light 2 stops and softens the image. I may sell the 2x and put the money toward the 200-600 G.

Thanks, I appreciate it greatly.
I just received my A1 and 200-600 G this weekend. I am blown away but have a lot to learn. The lens seems so sharp for what it is, but every shot is in focus now so I am probably just over excited....lol
Coming from Nikon it is very different but pleasing to use and I am actually liking the menu but still not dialed in.
