It's interesting isn't it. When I first joined this site(pre Z-9 release) I thought it was the opposite. Every gear thread turned into an A1 discussion.
Case in point and you just made it crystal clear if there were individual forms it wouldn’t be an issue now would it?

Whenever you can’t post a simple question or suggestion without being attacked for it there’s something really wrong with the situation

Much of it is brand inclusive?

Have a look at page one of this forum....14 out of 25 are directly related to Nikon. That was even worse a few weeks ago when I think I counted 20 out of 25.

Steve used to shoot almost exclusively Nikon…that’s true…but today he shoots both that and Sony and I dunno on Canon…and has stated that while they’re all great we are talking with current gear about polishing the cannonball…and while he’s stated that AF wise his Sony gear is slightly ahead in more situations than his Zs are (paraphrasing a bunch of his posts and videos)…the Nikon glass is better than the Sony because of the TC lenses.

Yeah…lots of Nikon threads lately but what do we expect? I’m sure when the A2 or whatever it is comes we will see lots of Sony threads too…and I hate it when things descend into brand bashing. And…having a Sony section would begat a Nikon one and Canon one…and every o5er brand ones…and users of brand G will never stop posting in threads about brand Q that their G is soooo much better at xyz.

The suggestion about having a Gear section and asking that the brand be in the post title and an everything else section has some merit…but then there will be the inevitable debates about whether a post is a gear post or an everything else post.

At least it's not like FM where almost every Nikon discussion (in the Nikon subforum) is swamped with the same bunch of Sony users repeating the mantra 'my Sony A1 does it better'.
Them and Ugly Hedgehog…although a lot of the jerkery there is personality tprelated rather than brand…but the latter is a close second place.

Just like what you were stating here. If I were to post a question, for example, about a Sony flash, it would be buried in 30 threads about a Nikon Z8 and probably never get seen. There is nothing about this post or the poll that is argumentative or an anyway inflammatory so if someone makes it that way then it is something they have done not me.
Yes. I agree. I am new to the forum but have been disappointed that it is so Nikon oriented. I was drawn here by Steve’s superb A1 set up video and then bought his book but as a Sony shooter I am not finding what was looking for

I think something like a 'thread filter' would solve this. If you could filter out threads that contain keywords (for example 'Z8' or 'Nikon') you could avoid the content you're not interested in. Not sure how hard the implementation would be but shouldn't be impossible.

At the end of the day at Steve Perry’s site so he can have it directed in any area he wants. If he chooses to be solely in Nikon, then he owns is outside and that is his prerogative

Exactly just something simple. I have no desire to read Nikon Z8 threads or canon, R5 threads or anything other than what I shoot and adding a couple paragraphs or filters on the forum isn’t the end of the world.

I’m a bit torn on the subject because I’m not sure there would be enough traffic for separate brand sub-forums and seeing forums with threads that are mostly old (only 1 or 2 active) gives the feeling that the forum is dead. For example I belong to a M43 specific forum that is sub-divided so may different ways that each sub forum just doesn’t feel alive with activity etc. It makes the entire site feel dead.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. It was just merely a suggestion. I feel like someone that has been a long time donating and heavily contributing Member should be able to at least suggest a feature without feeling like they have just kicked someone in the teeth.
You shouldn’t feel like you’ve kicked anyone in the teeth. You haven’t. Your suggestion was perfectly reasonable.

Some of my favorite techniques have come from people using Sony or Canon cameras. Before I received my Nikon Z6 I searched Sony forums looking for suggestions as to setting up programmable Fn buttons. Coming out of that was the use of a button to Zoom to 100% - something I embraced immediately and have used extensively. I'd like to see more discussion about ideas for programmable buttons, ways people overcome barriers in the field, etc.

Most of the people here have experience that is resolved by technique rather than gear. I'd like to see a lot less reference to brands and camera models - just functionally what is the approach to a problem.

I completely agree with that and feel the same but at the same time it would be nice if there was a simple filter above the gear section that you could hone in on brand specific issues, suggestions or problems. That’s all I am even suggesting this for.

Thanks for opening up the discussion. It's been well handled.

I think that would be a great idea :)
