Suggestions for monopod for Nikon D 7500 and Nikon 209-500mm without breaking the bank

I have been happy with the Manfrotto 694CX (carbon fiber, max ht 65", weight 1.5lbs, price around $200). The max height may seem low, but remember you will add a couple inches more from the height of your monopod head, ball head, or gimbal, so this easily puts the camera eyepiece at my eye level (6ft tall). I like a monopod head over a ball head, and I have yet to try Steve's suggestion of using a gimbal head on a monopod, but I can see where that makes some sense.

That's a fairly light setup that doesn't require a huge support. Something like a Leophoto carbon monopod is plenty to support that combo. There are other similar brands but FWIW, I've used a couple of Leophoto products and like their build quality. Here's a link to their most popular monopods: https://leofoto.com/products_detail.php?id=163

As @KCAZ posted make sure you get one tall enough but it's also a good idea to purchase a support rated for at least 3 times your expected load if not more. Frankly in something like the Leophoto lineup I'd be looking at their sturdiest monopods which don't weigh much more than the lighter duty models.

i use a 3 legged thing Trent with Docz foot its great, holds my 500 / gimbal and 150-600 no issue

My choice for an occasional use monopod with medium tele (300/f4) and a D7200 was a Sirui P-204C (now discontinued) with either a Benro DJ90 head or a Sirui B-00K tripod head. One selection consideration was that the P-204C collapsed short enough (<21in) to pack in a checked suitcase for air travel. To keep your banker on good terms, lots of choices with good reviews (Manfroto, Benro, MeFOTO, Sirui, and more) available for <$100.

How are you planning to use it? Standing? Kneeling? I use my monopod kneeling/sitting most of the time. And with the legs mostly retracted, most any monopod will be very similar.

If you want to stand with it, then height and stability are more of a concern. I've used super high end carbon monopods and now use a more compact aluminum one that was only like $100. How I shoot, I can't tell a difference.

I shoot the Nikon 200-500 on a Z7. I use a Feisol CM-1471 and Wimberly MonoGimbal head. Steve's review of the Wimberly head is what convinced me to give it a try and I'm very happy with it. I was using a Kirk monopod head prior to the Wimberly and the Wimberly is much more comfortable, steady and controlled. If you haven't seen it, check out Steve's review.

I use a Manfrotto Element 5-section aluminum monopod for my D7500 or Z6 with Nikkor 200-500mm lens. Cost is about Ca$80.00. On top of that I have a Jobu Junior 3 Deluxe aluminum gimbal head. Both monopod and gimbal are rated for >12 kg. Price of gimbal ranges around Ca$400. Benro has a gimbal for around Ca$385. If the gimbal is too pricey then consider a lower cost ball head. Remember, though, that balancing such a rig on a ball head is not easy.
