I've always struggled to get a good photo of a Swamp Harrier. My experience has been that they are very wary of people and most of my closer shots have been of a rapidly departing rear end after I have disturbed them in rushes on the ground. I have never seen one perched before yesterday when I had great views of a pair hunting at a local wetland - Andy

Very nice! I’ve never seen them perch either. I was trying to get a shot of one the other day. Not very successful. Got him going away. I was waiting for it to circle around but It was still out of sight. I received an important text which I needed to answer .
While I was answering the text of course he returned and I was only able to get him going away. See photo below.

Besides him heading away , the large white tree in background doesn’t help either.😩

Thanks Ralph - your shot could easily have been one of my previous efforts

Very nice sequence!

Beautiful photos. We have a similar bird where I live in the mid western part of the USA. Northern Harrier. It's also rare to see one perched, at least rare to see one perched anywhere close enough to get a photo. Love the sequence.

Thank Jeff - appreciate your feedback. Your Northern Harrier is a very similar looking bird with the same distinctive white rump. We also have a Spotted Harrier but I have even less success with them.
