I only have the manual for the Z8 and my pair of Z9 — please check this was removed. As noted, I wonder why it was. We will see if this also come to the Z9.Well...crap - I missed that. In photo shooting menu, changing the color space to sRGB moves the position of the underscore in the file name. For example, if Adobe RGB is selected the file name might read _JSP1234 while sRGB would read JSP_1234. Much easier to read, and has no effect on a RAW file's actual color space. I've done this ever since my first digital camera (D1x) and I think Steve does also.
First thing I did - it was removed - no idea why.

- The lowest value for the ISO sensitivity settings when taking HLG photos is ISO 800. Hi 0.3 and Hi2.0 not available. Color space fixed at BT.2100. [RM p433]
HOWEVER, Z8 Specifications -- RM p910 Photo Shooting AND RM p913 - Video Shooting: ISO sensitivity is limited to 400-25600 when HLG is selected in Tone Mode.
The Nikon.Com press release and interviews with Nikon folk included reference to planned future firmware will lower min ISO from 800 - 400 - 200 for certain kinds of format/codex -- this may apply to HLG photo shooting we will have to wait to see.
- There are a range of implications should one choose to HEIF/HLG Tone Mode -- including but not limited to: Subject Detection performance may drop if HLG is selected for Tone Mode inn photo shooting menu; high-speed frame capture cannot be combined with some camera features including HLG tone mode; Image overlay not available with HLG photos; Snapbridge can be used to download but not view HLG photos; playback displays when viewing HLG in camera may include "noise"; fewer Picture Control options for HLG (Standard, Monochrome and Flat); choosing HLG when shooting Interval Shooting fixes the video at H.265 10-bit MOV. The Buffer Capacity max no of shots indicated on p423 drops from Over 1000 frames when HLG is selected for Tone Mode and Large is selected for image size
- Location data (RM p222) -- As an alternative to snapbridge -- one can connect a GP-1A or 1 or 3rd party GPS receiver to the round 10-pin connector and jam GPS data when shooting
- Connecting an SSD directly via the USB-C not possible yet

- What the precise range or types of the new aviation subject detection options covers AND how is this different to Z9(3.10):
- Whether there other changes to AF in Z8(1.00) relative to Z9(3.10)
- HLG has a number of other impacts but these are loosely described
- A Nikon rep indicated that Snapbridge needs to be on a device connected to a cellular network -- so no good in the field in distant lands -- this needs to be confirmed -- it was my understanding that GPS tracking on our phones works just as well without internet connectivity or cellular service.
- Optimal strategies/settings to extend battery life -- should you wish to.

It's actually ISO 400 - at least on my Z8. Not sure if they changed something in the cameras that are shipping, but for HLG mode with stills it's ISO 400.

Steve, fantastic book for setting up my Z8 that arrived yesterday. I'm new to the mirrorless world so it was a big help. I'll probably be reading it again a few times after using the camera. Good detail with great explanations of the features and buttons.

I too got a Z8 (from B&H) yesterday and am new to mirrorless. I'd also like to add my thanks to Steve for his invaluable book. Its a huge help coming from a D850 and I will be referring to it many times as I come up to speed.
Steve, a fantastic book. Easy to understand even for people who do not speak English as their mother tongue.

How do you set up the highlight blowup (such as the zebra pattern that is only for manual focus) while shooting fully manual speed + capture with manual adjust ISO? I use the lens ring control for ISO, however, I am unable to set up my Z8 to quick and easy to view the highlight blowup (such as the zebra pattern) other than histogram which is hard to see from view finder. There's really not any out of the box way to do it for stills. There is a profile you can use that turns the highlights black and that can help. I have my own slightly modified version of it here you can download and add to your camera:
