I've seen grackles many times and I was never really tempted to make a photo of one before, until.......
On that day the bird was perched close to me and the light was just right to show some of the colour variations in its plumage.

Not easy to have a good color rendering on this type of bird/feather.
Here everything is perfect, especially the light, the palette of blues (metallic), gradients in blues, the reflection in the eye, the open beak, the perch, the color of the perch, the blurred background, the overall sharpness on the bird, the clarity... really a great photo 👏

Love the detail Koos,
Perfect Colours and light.
Regards,
Gavin
Thanks, Gavin. These birds usually appear black in colour. This one at that time reminded me a lot of the starlings (spreeu) that we see in the Lowveld and KNP.

Thanks, Philippe. :)

Great shot, Very similar to the NZ Tui, they just look black , but when they catch the correct light they are amazing.
I understand from a fellow photographer, that the Tui doesn't have any black feathers at all. !
