Marbled Orb-weaver (Araneus marmoreus) These spiders are bright yellow early but turn orange later in the season, given rise to their common name. Check out the temporary silk safety line paying from her abdomen as she descends the web to quickly check out a small fly. Too small to mess with, she then quickly ascends a support line attached to a dead leaf where she will hide in a curled leaf retreat during the day. She was a big girl- abdomen about the size of a dime and leg span ~ 2 inches. Third pic shows another individual, curled up within her leafy retreat.
