There is a flock of wild turkeys that hangs around a specific farm near my home. I've seen them there a few times already but I could never get close enough for a decent shot.
Today they were a bit closer.

Don't know if they were ever officially threatened but you simply didn't see them and there was no hunting them allowed. Late '80s? Maybe early '90s the numbers were again such that they were complained about (farmers) and a spring hunt was allowed again and then a few years ago a fall season was added due to the numbers.
