This Vermilion Flycatcher managed to get to the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in South Florida as Hurricane Harvey passed through in November of 2017. These birds are nearly never seen in these parts. One person who was originally from Arizona recognized him as being an adolescent Vermilion Flycatcher. They are mostly around Arizona, but sometimes seen as far east as Louisiana. He stayed at the refuge for almost 4 months, enough time to get his full vermilion color and for the locals and birders from all over to get many shots of him. He seemed to crave the interaction with people and liked having his photo taken. He was a celebrity while he was here. By the middle of March 2018, he was gone and never to be seen again.
