Views on the Nikon Z 105mm macro

If you own a Nikon Z 105mm macro I would interested to hear your thoughts on if it is worth swapping my F-mount version for the Z-mount version.

@Steve did you get to try this lens on your recent Costa Rica trip?

My order is now in stock, but not sure if I should swap or cancel my order so looking for any real world feedback.

I did get to use it a bit, not as much as I would have liked. It's a great lens, solid performer and sharper than its predecessor. I'm glad I purchased mine :)

Thanks @Steve . Did you find the lack of support for a teleconverter an issue with the new Z 105mm macro? Could you still do those snake shots ok:)
I'm not thrilled with it, but I didn't use the TC that often with it anyway. If you're not doing venomous snake focus stacks without a TC, are you even a real wildlife photographer? :D

It’s a fantastic lens 10/10. I like it so much that I sold my beloved 200mm f/4 Nikon macro lens. It blows the f mount version away in every way and it’s lighter as well.

Still awaiting stock here in the uk. Nikon are soooo slow fulfilling orders. My MC105mm was ordered in July.
on a positive note, the Nikon filter for that lens arrived today!

I sold my F mount 105 when I bought the Z mount 105, so I can’t directly compare. Still have my 200 f/4 macro, so never used TC’s with my old 105.

I have pretty much have my F-mount 1.4 teleconverter constantly attached to my F-mount 105 macro. I use it for taking pictures of butterflies and dragon flies etc. WIthout one I doubt I would be able to get that close to a butterfly without it flying off.

I ordered my Z version back in June and just came into stock in the UK today. I decided to buy it even though it does not work with the Z teleconverters. It should arrive tomorrow :D

I've had it since late June. It's a terrific lens - and feels light even though the weight is similar to the older model. It retains the 62mm filter size which is nice since I have CP, ND, and the 5T and 6T diopters. I highly recommend it. The F-mount lens was released in 2006 - one of the oldest lenses in current production. I love the bokeh on the new lens. AF is fast enough that I was using it today trying to photograph butterflies in flight.

I have my copy of the Nikon Z 105 macro now. However, it does make a noticable noise when focusing. Has anybody else noticed this or is mine faulty?
There is a whirring noise from the AF motor - especially when there is a long travel. It's minimal with a short travel.

Together with the Z 105mm I own several F mount and a G mount 105mm Micro Nikkor and others from zeiss etc.
The new 105mm Z lens is just stunning and worth the upgrade if you use macro lenses for a living.
Nearly all my work is product and at least half of that is macro.
The Z lenses continue to surprise me...
