Walking Around Photos

Reading the other post reminded me that basically all my wildlife photos are walking around photos at various places other than our backyard visitors.
Here are some early April Mule Deer about 2 miles behind our place in Central Washington just after the sun came out.

Another photo from last night. I have been avoiding taking smoky sun/sky photos because it is so depressing. But while watching the Sandhill Cranes for the first time this fall migration I decided to snap a couple. (A lot of banding showed up when I resized for forum use)

Great shots Hut. The soft light in the deer shot is very nice and the shots into the smoky sun are very cool.
Thanks, All this heavy smoke does make interesting filters. The first time I have been out in this particular area for a long time. No human tracks and tons of birds and critters so that made me happy.

Here's one from a few years back while out walking the dog. Light was harsh but I still grabbed some photos of this Short Tailed Weasel (aka Stoat or Ermine come winter) when he stood up in the rocks and posed for me.

Nikon D200 (my walk around camera before the D500), 70-300mm zoom @ 180mm f/4.8, 1/800", ISO 200

What a cute little fella!
Neat capture, Dave.

Here's one from a couple of summers ago while up in Seward Alaska. I was walking down by the marina mostly shooting images of sailboats and colorful kayaks piled up on the docks when I noticed a bunch of splashing around some of the boats. Walked down to take a closer look and found a group of Northern Sea Otters playing around in the water.

Was driving home from our week of camping this afternoon and stopped at a highway rest stop overlooking the Snake River to stretch our legs and walk the dog. Had noticed a lot of hawks soaring in the stiff afternoon winds so grabbed my camera for the walk and came across this Red Tailed Hawk perched on an old snag, had to maneuver around a bit to put him against the autumn colors across the river but was happy with the way this shot turned out.

A little hike to the SP today. Snapped a few shots of the colorful desert and then caught a few birds at the river. Pretty boring but about the best I have taken of these 2 species. D500, 200-500mm

I'm amazed at the size of some "Walking Around" lenses. What lens would be considered if you wanted to get serious? 🙂
I really liked the range of my 18-270 Tamron for walk around but it was a little soft so I finally bought a 24-70 2.8. Not as flexible but must better IQ. It depends mainly on what you shoot when walking around.

I bought my wife a Tamron 18-400mm for her D7500. It is a fun walking around lens. It gets a little flaky trying to focus at times though

I was using mine on my D7200 but have not tried it on my D850 since I bought it. It may be sharper on it. Mine focused good but was just a little soft, at least that is what I convinced my wife of!!

Probably a DX format?

Oh yeah, I believe it is! Thanks for the gentle reminder!!
Just for the heck of it I threw that 18-400 DX on my D850 just now and took a shot of the TV at 400mm and it was almost round. Then turned auto crop image area ON and it filled the screen. So I went out the door and took a hand held shot of the moon for fun and here it is....lol
