Here is a Mallard I saw this morning while walking Elmer doggy. Thought it looked ok, not tack sharp but it is colorful.
Much easier to post from flickr than resize everything, hope it's ok...

Hi Rich! It looks like you had one of THOSE mornings. Should live in the memory for a while. We have really great birds here in Australia but I often covet images of lovely northern hemisphere waterfowl. Great stuff!

Hi Neal! Thanks! Yeah these were from three separate mornings this past week. Totally consider myself very fortunate to have all the cool bird species that we do, but am also envious of the folks in the places that get the species we don't. As good a reason as any to travel I suppose. All living creatures are pretty spectacular in their own way. Maybe not mosquitos lol

Nice Day Rich!! Did the merganser get the fish down?

Thanks a lot Ralph! Yep, the little Hoodie sure did get that fish down. Two days in a row, within about a half hour period, he managed to eat 3 fish the size of what you see in the picture. Never seen anything like it. The female (not shown here) ate crayfish instead, both days. Those looked like a bit of a struggle to get down, but she did it. Not sure if that was her specific choice or just what she happened to come up with while doing her diving. I actually went to that location looking for Wood Ducks and did see them which was really great too, but it was the Hooded Merganser pair that I found the most fascinating for sure.

There is something about hooded mergansers that draw me to them as well. It is amazing how they can get such large fish down. Wood Ducks are also one of my favorites and while they are in my area you very rarely see them. 👍
