When will we see Nikon's long rumored 200-600 for the Z?

The Nikon 200-600 has been rumored for years.
My guess is that we will see it very shortly after Sigma announces the 150-600 Sport for the Z..
Let's hope that is soon and it is as good or better than the SONY 200-600.

My guess is we'll get the 800mm lens first sometimes before September this year. With it we will get an anouncement of development for the 200-600mm (fill in the lens in the lens roadmap) and availability for the Christmas shopping season. By then the Z9 would be in plenty of hands and there is gonna be very high demand for the 200-600mm.

lack of this lens is one of the things holding me back from making the move from D500 to Z camera. Actually 2 things, I can't afford a Z9 and I'm a little hesitant about Z7ii and focus "issues" reported although those may be overblown, just not sure and number 2, no native lens replacement for the trusty 200-500.

My "wish list" for the 200-600 would be lighter weight than the 200-500 and internally zoomed. But like. said, just a wishlist and I think either or both would be possible just not sure if Nikon will go that route or not.

I hope the rumors I've seen for the Sigma 150-600 Sport Z mount coming soon are true. The F mount version has been a very good performer for me with the D500. The new version, currently available for SONY, is lighter, smaller and better. I will likely buy whichever comes out first, Nikon or Sigma.

I'm sure it will be a 2022 lens and not one of the 2023 ones. I was surprised that the 800PF got added to the roadmap and then shortly got pre-announced showing that it will be coming very soon where as the 200-600 and 600S that have been on the roadmap for a good while are coming after the 800PF.

I think the 200-600 will be a very important lens. Every Sony shooter I know, especially those that switched over from Canon or Nikon bought that lens and that lens was often a main driving point for them to switch. Sometimes more than the camera capabilities at the time.

Time will tell if it will be similar to Sony with f/6.3 at the long end and internal zoom. The silhouette looks very similar to the Sony but I guess it could still be external zoom although I'd think it would be a bit shorter if it was. The diameter of the front of the lens is not big enough to be 600 f/5.6 as that would need a 300/2.8 sized element so I think f/6.3 is a safe bet. But we saw with the 800PF that the original silhouette isn't always correct as that thing grew in both length and width when the real image was added to the new family photo.

I’m using the 2xTC with the Z 20-200 f2.8 to get me to 400mm at f5.6 as a stop-gap until the 200-600.
as they’re not ‘S’ lenses, I hope that they’ll be nicely priced for us poor consumers, just as the F 200-500 was. So far the non S lenses for the Z mount have all been excellent.
I’m hoping sooner rather than later,
