Where do you show off your work?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Truely, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with sharing photos. If you are looking for marketing and sales opportunities social media is not where you want to be. If you want to put your photos up for sharing, comments, discussion and/or critique, this forum is the best place for that. If you want to become an "influencer" then that is what social media does well. But only if your photos are topical and relevant to the "flavor of the day"; wildlife and nature photos are rarely that.

Personally, as an amateur, I enjoy sharing my photos on two sites; this one and Instagram. For different reasons but I always enjoy the interaction with others on both sites. I also like to submit entries to the County Fair.
Thanks Gary. Very helpful. Appreciate your advice.

I purchased a web domain from Go Daddy in June of 2020 for <$50 + $75 for privacy/security set up. I also purchased a web builder for around $150... these are good for 5 years and are renewable. It was not my intent to try to sell anything on the site (although e-commerce is possible) ... I just wanted an easy to use location to park the shots that I like and be able to easily share them. The 3 Galleries are set up as a "slide show" and frames can be frozen for longer viewing. It works out to $55/year for this convenience... if you are interested in viewing-- https://edisvisualalchemy.com

Very nice 👍

I have used SmugMug for sharing since 2012.

First, let me get this out of the way. SmugMug made the tough decision to re-write their foundational software many years ago which required folks to migrate to a newer system. That caused much angst....to me included. HOWEVER, that change allowed SM to offer new capabilities and is MUCH improved and easy to use compared to the old site and to other sites such as Zenfolio. Making the tough decision to position themselves for the future was WELL WORTH ! But some people still want to bring this bring up this history as a reason not to use SM today.

So, today SM is extremely easy to set up and to customize. You can view my website as an example using the link in my signature. And it is reasonably priced. You can download a 14 day free trial from this link:

SmugMug

If you decide to purchase SM, the link will give you a nice discount off the first year.

I also have used Smugmug for 7-8 years and have no complaints. However, that site isn't one that will provide you the critical feedback on your images you mention in your initial post. My impression is that feedback isn't the most important part that you are looking to find. Reading between the lines of your original post, your primary focus, as it appears to me, is your desire to turn your amateur photography skills into a money making venture. In that case, I highly recommend Smugmug as it is very customizable for photography commerce. Again, it is very easy to use and set up. The link to my site is below.

Karen, I really enjoyed your Smugmug site. I envy your travels and the photographic subjects that go along with it. You have a very nice body of work. It is always nice to view nice images and you have plenty. Looking at your page motivated me to make some site updates to mine. I really hadn't changed it since I set it up many years ago so it was due for some upgrades. Thanks for the motivation.

I have to add, your avatar on this forum gives me the creeps and reminds me of the movie "IT". Hahaha! I say then in fun only. That image plays with my emotions. I guess that is what photography is about. :)

Thank you for taking a peek at my website. I often look at the images there and think "WHO took all those images?" LOL! I'll try photographing just about anything but weddings. And I'm not comfortable photographing people, but during our travels, the people are so interesting!

Regarding my avatar.....we were on Santorini and I fell in love with this clown puppet. It had a porcelain face and was BEAUTIFUL. It was also about $600 (now it would be over $1K. I later found out the artist was internationally famous.) Anyway, the cost plus having to cart it around during our travels convinced me to not buy it. But I DID take this photo.

And about creepy......um.....that would be a photo of the REAL me! LOL! I try to always stay behind the camera. Although my Contact Me page does have a rare photo of me.......taken 20 years ago.

Thanks again!
