Which Cropping Aspect Do You Use?

My favorite is 16x9 with certain images. It looks great on canvas, maybe not so great if printing

You can only see EXIF info for this image if you are logged in.

. If I know it will be printed I might do 8x10 or 1x1. You?

This Great Blue Heron is a 16x9 crop.

It really depends on the image, how cropping might help or hurt composition and as you say whether I'm going to print the image. But I guess the three I use the most are: 3x2 (ideally without any cropping straight off the sensor), 4x5 for portrait oriented stuff unless the composition works leaving it in 3x2 and like you 16x9 for images with a lot of horizontal sweep to them. I'll also go to custom crops for some things like panos and very rarely will crop a 1x1 ratio if it really helps the image.

I have a 'soft spot' and regularly crop my landscape images to 16:9 ratio. I agree with the previous post that the particular composition needs to suit the 16:9. If I can crop some sky and foreground out of the scene I think 16:9 format looks great.

Really depends on the image. I do find that for landscapes I'll keep the original AR or might go with16:9. For portraits 80% of the time I seem to go with 5:7 and very rarely will I actually go 4x5.
