Who has pre-ordered the Z8?

Looks like I'll be an outlier. 1 preorder (that I just got invoiced for and it will be shipping on Thursday). Leaning towards group 2. Don't need 2 bodies with stacked sensors.

That depends. IQ is not any better from the standpoint of what the sensors are capable of producing. But focus is more accurate. The first time I shot the Z9 with 500mm PF I was really surprised at how much sharper the images were than with the same lens on the D850. And yes the D850/500PF was fine tuned.
I see that not only do the images taken with the Z9 seem a bit sharper, which could be due to camera settings I've chosen in the menu, but they are also more consistently in focus. I'm going through the water ski tournament photos from last Saturday, and I'm seeing a much higher rate of in-focus shots than I got with any of my DSLRs, including the D500, D750 and D850.

And getting back to the OP, I have not ordered a Z8.

I hear from UK as well as in S Africa that many orders are due to be met starting in shops tomorrow. In fact, the one salesman said they will have a couple more in need of a permanent home....

Nikon have got their act together this time round - global release into stores on the 25th May. It will be interesting to see if the Z8 sales overtake the Z9 over the next year!

Bit the bullet and decided to go with the Z8 as my 2nd body; will be selling the last of my DSLRs and F mount lenses (with the exception of the 500PF. Amazingly, I called my local camera shop yesterday (I buy most of my gear through them) and they said I should have my body this weekend. Fingers crossed.

I just came from a Nikon event to jhave a look and try the Z 8. i found the camera with the grip feels good in the hand. As Steve said it is a mini Z9. I am happy that I ordered it with the grip as a back up camera for the Z9. Nikon representative told me that they ship them already to the store and I believe I am going to have mine tomorrow.

I had voted that "I may get one in the future". I have now changed that to "I have already ordered one" 😁

I know, I am weak.
I believe most of us in this forum are like you: weak:D. At least it is a good hobby, healthy for the brain and for the body. That is what my husband tell everyone that they believe I am out of my mind to buy all these gears.

As noted on the first page of this thread, I ordered mine from B&H at 8:09 am on the day of the announcement. I fully expected to be waiting close to a year like I did for my Z9, and I was ok with that because it's intended to replace my Z9 (just too big and heavy, don't feel like the grip is worth the extra bulk), and I selling my Z9 is going to be a pain. Ordering from B&H was my way of procrastinating, lol. Lo and behold, I got an email this morning saying my Z8 shipped today and will arrive on Sunday. Crap! Now I do need to figure out where to sell my Z9 and for how much. What a pain.

Got my Z8 today, too. Went for the Z 24-120 f4 S zoom as part of a kit…I think this lens will be good for the many outdoor events on the schedule for this summer.

Went through Steve’s introductory Z8 settings tutorial with a fine toothed comb this morning and rethought some of my settings. Thank you Steve.

I programmed Banks A and fired off a few rounds. Alongside the Z9, having used that for a year and a half, the Z8 just seems positivly tiny.

I was hoping to get kit or lens 24-120 like you did but were out, had a deal to get one not in kit reduced price but all out. So pick up Z8 in am and will use f mount 24-70 2.8 glass for now. Please let me know how you like the 24-120 if you get a chance IQ and bokeh. Handy focal lengths for walk around lens. Thanks
Kurt

Hi KurtY,
Mike’s Cameras put together what they called a “soft kit” with the discount. Lucky they had the stock. I will be shooting a 5-day outdoor music festival next month so that’s why I was anxious to have it. I will report back then.

These extended f4 zooms, combined with AI denoise software, are in many cases replacing the standard f2.8 trinity of zooms for event work, especially for well-lit venues.

Thanks. Yes Mikes here in Sacto was going to do that but called me back...ran out of lenses. I would like something lighter /longer than the 24-70.
