Another astrophotography attempt from my Yosemite National Park trip last fall. Half Dome, Glacier Point, and stars reflected in the Merced River. I think the bright star is a planet, not sure which as I didn't look it up at the time.

Really a wonderful image! Strong composition. Did you take any images with a shorter shutter speed?
I didn’t, all were 30 second exposures from that night. Perhaps something I should experiment with next time!

I’m certainly no astro expert, any settings you would recommend? I usually default to 30s, f/2.8, and ISO 6400.

Beautiful!

Is this a single exposure?
Yes, this is a single exposure (30sec, f/2.8, ISO 6400).

I’ve read about other techniques like stacking multiple images to reduce noise or combining a foreground shot and a star shot to blend in post processing but I haven’t tried those yet.

I will say I do like the simplicity of a single exposure haha! But maybe results could be better with other techniques.

Beautiful shot. The planet is probably Venus as it is usually one of the brighter planets. However I sure I’d it was visible when you captured this shot. At any rate we’ll do e image.

The stars are a bit blurred. A shorter shutter time would help achieve sharp stars. Research shutter time versus focal length.....

I went to Yosemite with my buddy from school, he also goes to bed early, around 9, so I was out by myself for this one!

Great picture! Was the moon out that night? There is so much light on the mountains and part of the fore ground. At 15mm and 30 seconds I really don't see a star trails.
The moon wasn’t out when the photo was taken. The light may be coming from the Curry Village campground and/ or Housekeeping Camp campground.

The camera picked up more light than I remember seeing. Thinking the 30s exposure had something to do with that but I’m certainly no night photography expert!
