Z8 has arrived!

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

After my very long wait when I preordered the 500PF from Adorama, this time I went with my local shop. I preordered on the day it was announced and it arrived today. This is my first mirrorless camera and it’s impressive!

I had also preordered from Amazon. Original estimates ship date was July 1, but was updated to June 1–5. Needless to say, I’ve cancelled the Amazon order. Definitely can’t afford two!

Any information from anyone on when the next round of orders will be fulfilled?
When I picked mine up yesterday they said they expected future supply to be good. Couldn't give me an exact timeframe but they are hoping that the Z8 will even be available for walk-in customers within a couple of months. Of course only Nikon knows.

I'd read on various forums that the battery supplied with the camera is fully discharged and mine certainly was. In order to configure the camera (who wants to wait three hours?) I slipped in an EN EL 15c that I bought during the pandemic when Nikon batteries were very hard to get. These batteries, branded Dot.Foto from Amazon, worked fine in my Z6 and Z7ii but the Z8 will have nothing to do with them. It puts up a notice on the LCD that it cannot communicate with the battery and, therefore, cannot use it for safety reasons. It then shut down. I suspect that these Nikon batteries are going to be hard to source for a while. This morning I managed to buy a couple from a (UK) supplier that had three left. Other suppliers were out of stock...

However, the camera is magnificent and the 26mm 2.8 lens that I bought at the same time is now sitting on my Z6 ready for some street photography. Yes, as Ricci says, the 26mm focus motor is noisy (for a Nikon lens) but the optical quality is very high and who'll hear the motor in the street anyway?

I'm off to play with the toys. :p

When I moved from my D810 to a D850 I could only use certain genuine Nikon EN-EL15 batteries in the D850 or it would not play ball.

The batteries that have Li-ion 10 on the label did not work, the ones marked Li-ion 20 did, but possibly not at the same performance level than the batteries made for the D850. Can't remember the details now, but for my use they were fine.

nikon seems pretty persnickety about third party batteries so i don’t bother trying any more

my local brick and mortar (northwest usa) had lots of (en-el15c) batteries in stock when i went in to pick up my z8 yesterday. they, like lots of local places will mail items, so you might just get a list of nikon dealers and call around. good chance you can find what you need

Look what UPS delivered about an hour ago. Likewise, totally flat battery, had to charge for about 5 minutes in camera before the camera would even turn on with power supplied via USB-C. Non-NPS, order placed 8:12am on 5/10 with Nikon USA...color me shocked to see it show up today...UPS overnight was free.

I'd say the size is just about perfect and it feels solid, substantial in the hand, but not heavy. No interest in adding a grip to this one, have a Z9 for that. Now, where is my cat???

i ordered mine with the FTZII right after Steves livestream, on the first day to pre order. Adorama shipped it yesterday at 4PM from NY and Tennessee, arrived by UPS overnight at 10Am this morning in California. Pretty speedy service.

Wife’s Z8 would have arrived today had Nikon not cancelled the order because our credit card company flagged the charge as suspicious and declined the order. Nikon does not give you an opportunity to rectify the problem, they immediately cancel the order. We even called the credit card company after the pre-order to pre-authorize this purchase. CC company said we were good to go and the large amount would not be flagged. Tried to reorder and it is back ordered now.😡🤬

That would make me go ballistic. Time to change credit card companies.

I feel your pain, but I have seen posts similar to this before, and the problem is not specific to Nikon. I can't remember who the other vendors that were mentioned were; perhaps B&H, or BestBuy. Anyway it seems that once an order gets declined in their system, there is no way to go back and resurrect the previous order, or resume your previous place in line.

I could see this happening to anyone, if their credit card were to get compromised and they have to cancel their card and have the bank issue them a new one.

Did you happen to miss an inquiry from your credit card company, where they tried to verify the purchase with you? If not, I would ask the bank why they declined to approve the purchase if you were within your credit limit.

No one tried to contact us, the order was canceled immediately. Only email was to inform of the cancellation.

I got bombed! I ordered the Z8 and was told it will be here today, and an email confirmed that. Later I was offered a few 'add on' at a cheap price. So I bought an extra FTZII. They sent the FTZ overnight and I got it today, the Z8 is in the back of a truck and will deliver Wednesday. Yep, the shipper got confused, or wanted to play a bad prank on me.

Mine would have arrived today…if we had been home to sign for it but we are in Orlando for an Elks thing so it’s coming from UPS Monday. I got an email from Nikon Wednesday saying it was in stock and they would be sending me delivery notification in “2 or 3 business days “ which I took to be either Saturday or next week. Got the UpS shipping details email at 2000 Thursday with delivery Friday (today) by 1200…and got the Nikon it shipped notification 3 hours after that..and we were committed to the Elks convention…free booze and food so how bad can it be. We will be home Sunday and Monday is the Memorial Day holiday so Tuesday will have to do. But the good news is that I will have it and the 24-120 coming with it for our trip across the pond to the UK…and I’ve already figured out how to modify my Z9 settings so both are as identical as possible. I will take the 8 and the 7II on our trip to save me a bit of weight…and the 14-30, 24-120, and 100-400 lens combo will cover everything I need…would not need the 100-400 for the London based choral tour part of the trip but will for Yorkshire Dales and Lakes.

And…they tried to deliver again today…and obviously failed since we are still in Orlando…and will try again next business day On Tuesday.

I HATE FEDEX! My delivery from B&H was "Out for Delivery" today. Expected 10:50am - 2:50pm. I stayed home all day, checking FedEx constantly. Now, I get an email saying there were "Operational Difficulties" on FedEx's part. Sure, the guy delivering, that drove past my house this morning, decided he was tired of delivering and went back. This is not the first time this has happened in my area. Or, they say they attempted delivery but no one was home. No note on the door (and you were home all the time.) Or, they deliver it somewhere else (or say they did) our local newsgroup people are always asking if someone got their FedEx delivery. This one has to be signed for, so FedEx can't pull the "we delivered it" scam, then actually really deliver it the next day. FedEx contracts with so many people, they pull up in a rental van to deliver. I can't believe that B&H contracts with such a shoddy company. They're awful. *done griping*

Mine was scheduled to arrive today as well. UPS listed as "Out for Delivery" Then status was updated "Delivery Attempted" and gave the time, which was an outright lie. Someone was home all day, and both my wife and I were home at the supposed delivery attempt and we were watching for the truck. Assume he just wanted to get his run done for the day. So now it's scheduled for Tues. Not a big deal as long as it doesn't end getting "lost" I ordered some SD cards and spare batteries which were supposed to show up Weds. That box was found "empty" Just not my week.

I appreciate it’s not practical for everyone but I decided to visit the store rather than risk UPS. Two hour trip into London to collect but it was much less stressful than having the camera left on the doorstep or stuck in transit over the weekend. I can’t fault the dealer. Great service and always with a smile.

I did a 1.5 hour trip to collect mine in North Yorkshire.
I like going into "real camera shops" :)

My local camera store predicted the Z6 arriving in May back in January was more than on the cards. They were right.

They are now predicting a "big event" in November for a likely Z7 III.
