For a number of reasons I waited until the first of the new year to order a Z9 camera as my first dip in the Nikon mirrorless pond. I ordered one from B&H on January 5 and submitted the form with NPS for priority fulfillment and I received word today some 3 weeks later that a Z9 for me had been shipped to B&H. Nikon production of the new Z9 has been much better than with earlier cameras and this is very good news for anyone wanting to buy this camera sooner rather than later.

Or demand was not high as expected. Numerous buyers were on multiple lists, so whatever was "reported" was greatly exaggerated.

Getting mine on Monday and I don't recall ever being this excited about a new camera. No exaggeration on this one.

I'm curious as to how long between when NPS emails you they shipped camera to B&H and when B&H will notify you that the camera is being sent to you? I'm going to Iceland and wondering if the camera will arrive by the time I leave. I was notified by NPS on Jan 20th. Is it a fairly quick turnaround?

As a personal experience, B&H will have your camera in a few days. I got mine like 5 days after NPS email, from Nikon to distributor to me. Funny that you mentioned that you will be out of the country since the same thing happen to me, I have the Fedex app and I was able to send it to a Walgreens where I had 5 days to go pick it up, it works great since the camera arrived at Walgreens the same day I was coming back. Good luck!

dunno how useful this datapoint is, but i ordered without nps the morning of oct 28 through my local store, then got nps membership and requested priority on my order jan 28, got a shipping notice feb 4 and i received my camera yesterday. not sure how much longer it would have taken, but i do think the wait isn’t super long for nps members

Congrats!!!

fwiw i have a 100-400 i pre-ordered in oct and added the nps priority in jan and have not gotten a shipping notice yet
A real Oddity ... I had Z100-400 pre ordered not NPS and had stock notifications at other places ... got an e mail from ProCam 1-17-22 that they had one and I ordered instantly even though it was $75 over everyone else but it was shipped from Michigan to Idaho overnight air for that price and no tax and I had it 1-18-22 :)

I had written above that NPS said they sent my camera (Z7ii) to B&H on January 20th. After calling them 10 days later, B&H said not received it and don't expect any Z7iis until Feb 22nd. In other words, I think they lost it or gave it to someone else.

I placed an order with Brad and Berger Bros for the 100-400mm with B&H having sold the one they received from NPS for my order to another customer. Less than a week later Brad phoned to tell me the lens had arrived and he could ship it out to me. I had put a $1,000 deposit on the lens so he knew I has not placing orders all over the place.

Each Nikon reseller gets some allocated units for new cameras and lenses. Smaller stores may have a much smaller allocation but they also have far fewer customers trying to place orders. If all I want is one camera or one 100-400mm then it is OK if a store only is allocated one or two so long as I get one.
