Z9 or Z8 sale pricing?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Has the Z9 ever gone on sale? Ie. Black Friday, Xmas....or has the price remain as is since it's introduction?

I'm assuming the Z8 will follow the same pricing sales scheme.

I was going to maybe wait a year to get the Z8, but if it's not likely to go on sale at a reduced price I rather just buy and take photos instead of waiting for nothing.
$8999 AUD list price, Box Shifters good ones safe to deal with are into the lower $7000sAUD, the lowest i have seen it is $7150 AUD, Georges is a land based camera store in the City is at $7400 AUD and if you go in to the shop you can hustle more. AUD to USD = at times between 700-1000 USD off depending on the exchange rates on the day.
The Z8 list in AUD is $6999 plus $650 AUD for a grip etc, on that basis the Z8 gripped is dearer than the Z9 box shifters or our local city store, making selling a used Z9 a tough Gig.

Used Z9 pricing is pitching around $6000 to $6500 AUD depending on condition but with Z8 arrival its getting a bit competitive.
Selective grey market that have been around for a while and are perfectly fine to deal with and have been for years, in cases they can deliver and turnaround things much much faster.
I am not saying you should use them, just many here do as we can get delivery's from Hong Kong to Sydney in 3 to 4 days, compared to14 days plus locally.

My D3s, D4, D4s, D5, all came from Hong Kong, flawless, never an issue, ordered one day, in my hand in 4 days on average, never an issue to deal with.

i vaguely recall an announcement that nikon would move away from its current scheme to not allow resellers to discount, but i’ve also heard prices are set to go up. perhaps related.

in any case, i don’t expect the z8 or z9 to get discounted in the near future. as folks have noted, refurbs are an option and it’s possible that a few z9s will end up on the used market now that the z8 is out, but even there i wouldn’t count on finding one and i wouldn’t count on getting a smoking deal
And used Z9s aren't really all that much cheaper than new ones at B&H when I checked the other day.

I’ve not seen Z 9 cameras on sale in the United States. However, periodically Nikon USA sells refurbished Z 9 cameras at $1,000 less than the new camera price. I noticed such a listing this morning.

Z8 pricing comparison from another forum -- what appears to have happened is Nikon set a recommended price for each territory on launch and then exchange rates changed.

Obviously import and luxury good duties vary by territory of origin and the end users residence.

You can see what I used in the table. I also made assumptions about Sales Tax, GST and VAT levels for a Z8. IN the USA there are 5 bands of Sales Tax from 0% to 75 and some financing companies absorb the sales tax but you have to pay their cost of financing - I used an average 5%. Prices in the EU are all quoted in Euros (the same number) and it appears that Nikon is absorbing the differences. Hence why the NET cost is lower in some and higher in others. Some of us are registered for VAT and therefore it is the NET cost that matters, since we can offset the VAT we pay on purchases against the VAT we charge on sales. Muggles get to pay full Gross cost. Visitors buying items while traveling can often recover a significant portion of the VAT they incur when the exit the territory -- but often this is less than 100%.

Pricing for buying in Hong Kong and India is somewhat confusing to me so please correct. AND correct others but please provide sourcing details and assumptions.

This is better than the Big Mac Index :ROFLMAO:

A retailer selling Nikon cameras or lenses for more or less than what Nikon is selling them for on Nikon USA is ground for that retailer to lose their Nikon Authorized Dealer designation. Just ask Cardinal Camera in Pennsylvania. They were caught by Nikon for selling less that the current price of the Nikon USA site. When Nikon has a sale, the retailers will ALL have the exact same price.

The only thing that the retailers do is offer bundles with the cameras like free or discounted memory cards, cleaning supplies like sensor cleaning kits, filters etc.

Any retailer selling for a different price usually lasts to losing that authorized dealer designation

Just get one,

the most valuable currency in the world is TIME, spend it wisely

The Z9 is usually all the time down $1600- $1700 AUD from its launch price of $8999, has been for many months.

Teds a major local city store, as are some others not in this garb shot, locals can be down $500 to $1200 AUD on the day, much lower prices are with reputable box shifters moving product basically as the pipe line has filled and slowed for some time, standard practice. A few of the box shifters have been dealing here for years and are excellent with delivery and service, have been for years, and they have a local distribution warehouse.

Once you see box shifters offering product at below original list you know stock needs to move.

If you that keen for a sale price don't wait for the Z8 to go on sale if it does it wont be by much.

Initial take off on the Z8 has been understandably a little slower than expected but its strongly believed momentum will pick up going forward if history is any indication, unlike the Z9 launch which was born under completely different circumstances, the Z8 is more like a sequel movie.

Of course things may be completely different elsewhere.

Its a good camera and a good move by Nikon, even a better move for Nikon lovers. I think its a really good camera and price, it certainly sets the bar for going forward.

My self i have the Z9, i am not breaking my neck to get a Z8, i would rather look at glass before another body.

Only an opinion

Around where I live (Eastern Europe), the Z8 seems to be in stock (body only) in most camera gear stores.

It's been a while since a body was such in stock ineadiately after launch so I am quite hopeful we'll see cut prices or freebies thrown in for this autumn :).

This seems to be in line with my early sensing of things are a little slower than anticipated for take up, or Nikon has made certain they were not going to repeat the painful wait the Z9 went through and made stock build up and ready before hand.
I have heard things are slower than first thought, but hey that's hear say i guess, I am hopeful things will gather momentum.
