The barn is on private property, so this was the best comp I could work out. The mountains are the Mission Mountains. I waited for about an hour for the lighting to improve, but it wasn't to be that day.

Beautiful composition, well captured and presented. As we all know, the sun and weather do not follow our orders or even our wishful thoughts.

I have photographed that Barn many times over the past twenty years in various seasons of the year. Beautiful with the Mission Mountains as the backdrop.
Do you have a favorite seasonal photo of the barn?

When I was headed south, the farmer was plowing the field, so the dust made it pretty much impossible to make a photo. On the way back a few days later it worked out.

I'd have to dig further into my archives though a photo from 2011. I like the late afternoon light on the Barn and the Mission Mountains. I have family that reside in Montana and I'll head up towards Ronan on a side trip and Camp at a RV Park and on the way back down to I-90 and I'll visit the National Bison Refuge in Moiese Montana. For Wildlife Photography in September that place is fantastic.

Great photo. The NBR is one of the hidden gems of Montana. Ninepipes is also a great place for bird photography.

Thanks, had to resize that photo alot. I understand the Tribes took over the NBR last year. I take that long loop road up to the top of the Mountain with the fantastic views of the Flathead Valley and the Missions. Up on top and in the canyons those Mule Deer Bucks are huge. My favorite is to time our trips for the Elk Rut when they are down along the River. Yes the NBR is definitely a hidden Gem for Wildlife Photography.

The first time I was on the long loop road I was young and I thought we were never going to get back to the entrance. Thanks for helping me recall the memories.

What a gorgeous background to the old barn. I can imagine many photos at many times of the year and in all kinds of weather. What a fun place to play.

So the light didn't meet your expectations for the shot. That gives you a reason to go again to attempt the shot in better light! Why didn't the light get better? Time of day? Weather?
