I spent some time searching for some Big Horn sheep displaying their rutting ritual (head-bashing).

I noticed you are shooting the same setup I will have in the near future. About how far were these shots taken and were they cropped in at all? I have not had a big prime before, curious to see the difference.

These were a good distance away. I had to do a little crop both images to get what you see. This is the uncroped version of image #1

Any luck this season? Afraid I missed it this year. Early snow made for tough access.

Nice photos! See or hear any head-butting?

Nice photos. I've never witnessed the head butting in person (always in sheep country at wrong times of year) but it is a treat and thrill just to see these magnificent creatures.

I did get to see some head butting and it sounded like a rifle shot. I have a couple of photos but I was at the limit of my equipment. Not the best photographs but when I look at them I still remember the excitement. Sorry again for the poor quality, I couldn't get any cloaser

I did hike in on some of my images. We had snow but only about a foot deep. By the end of my trip we had that major snow storm that closed highways and passes.

Thank you, we were actually about a week early. Most of what we witnessed was pushing / shoving and cheap shots to the testicles. We had one good day with head butting but it was too difficult for us 'flat-landers' to reach them.
