Thanks Mark. The background is grape jelly in an oriole jelly feeder. The green and swirled texture is reflection of flowers around the feeder. The white is the reflection of passing clouds. The real subject is the silhouetted shadow of the bug cancelling the reflection of the clouds.
It's kind of a reflection thing. The reflections are always present on the jelly if the camera is aimed properly. The orioles will be back soon and the feeders will be back out and this years jelly shots should improve when I watch and wait and improve the technique.
Here's another shadow picture that I really like and will practice using the technique more when the bugs and flowers are back out. It still needs a little adjustment.
I already have Mexican sunflowers and a variety of milkweed started in the house so I can get an early crop of flowers to attract the hummingbirds and butterflies in late June that usually have to wait until later in the summer to have as regular visitors. Milk weed and red and orange torch sunflowers are the secret here.
