Really a beautiful set - their colours are very nice tooKing Penguins - circumpolar subantarctic birds.
"The most pelagic of penguins. Satellite tracking of 18 breeding adults from the Crozet islands found that the mean foraging range was 471km (range 144–1489). Trip lengths were longest in winter: one bird travelled 3893 km over a 35-day period, at an average speed of 111km /day." - Birds of the World species entry.
Here on Macquarie Island, half way between Australia and Antarctica.
Parent and juvenile (!)
They are quite tame and curious. One came up to me and spent a couple of minutes checking me out.
Parents incubating an egg on their feet
Dapper looking guys; up to a metre tall
