I have always been amazed by the agile flying ability of the white-tailed kite.
During the training for a food drop, the father kite hovers midair with a vole clasped in its talons. The juvenile then ascends swiftly with calculated movements.

Displaying unparalleled agility, it twists and turns mid-flight, even assuming an upside-down position to grab the prey.

Occasionally, it takes two or three tries to secure the rodent, yet the entire process takes no more than a second.

This spectacle serves as a testament to nature's unerring cycle of growth and learning. It's a display of how survival skills are passed from one generation to the next within the breathtaking theater of the open sky.

Nice set of images. I can see why you enjoy shooting them. Beautiful birds and very interesting behavior. TFS

Thank you, Dan.

Here in California, the White Tailed Kites population is growing back slowly during the last 10 years, normally a couple would produce 4 chicks in a brood, for three months every year, the kites hunt for vols, ground squirrles every day.

Very beautiful birds.
