Pursuing nature photography was so important to me during this time that I recently wrote an article about the "Therapeutic Power of Nature Photography" that was published in the current issue of Nature Photographer Magazine.
With all of that stated, my year's work represents a mix of 20 minutes of shooting here and there, to long hours of sitting and watching nature as I grieved the loss of my one true love.
Just last week I returned from Bosque del Apache. This was my first real trip without Tamy, and was a trip that almost never happened. Tamy had always been my travel companion and I left on an 8 day road trip with the fear that I would not be able to do this on my own. Fortunately my golden doodle Luca, was there to keep me company and I endured... making the trip happen. I think some of my best work of the year was made at Bosque, but... with the exception of a few pictures, the work is currently unedited. The last picture in this series was posted earlier in the week, and is among the best shots I've made in a long time... so I present it here as well.
Ok... that's a huge confession of life's reality. These 8 photos are presented in the order they were taken.

Bruce, I feel that I may speak for the community of fellow photographers on this forum when I/we express sorrow for your loss. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers throughout this difficult time. That you and Tamy shared so many great years exploring a shared passion should give you solace going forward. Thank you for sharing with all of us……

It's actually a Costa Rican Pygmy Owl, but pretty much the same idea - small owl, super cute

Necessity is the mother of creativity? Most of the bird was clipped out of the frame. It seemed like a shame not to use that detail for something. So the talon shot was born....

First half of year is already transferred to hard drives and deleted from computer and I am too lazy to plug in hard drive. So, I grabbed eight from second half of year that are still on my computer.

A Sandhill Crane captured Jan 28/2023 at George Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, British Columbia. It was a cloudy day and the crane was standing in the pond area which provided a perfect background for this shot. Minimal post work done, just some removal of some debris in the water.

Wow awesome set of images from everyone - I can spend hours looking at them. I mostly do bird photography and these three images are my favorite because they reflect strength, courage and determination in overcoming life's challenges.

1&2: A Bald Eagle with a Raccoon for lunch. A raccoon can weigh anywhere between 5-20 kg - even at the lowest end the eagle was showing its strength. Then something funny happened. As the eagle settled on a nearby tree branch it lost the grip and lost its meal in the forest below.
3. A pair of Cardinal fought valiantly against a Common Grackle to protect their chicks in a nearby nest. The fight lasted almost 20 seconds before the Grackle moved on.
4. A Red-tailed Hawk who has only one leg, has overcome its limitation and adapted well to live up to adulthood.
