I am located in S.E. Michigan. The decline in numbers and variety at my two bird feeders over the last two years has been unmistakable and dramatic.
Last winter there were many northern cardinals, starlings, and chickadees at my feeders. I’ve seen substantially fewer this winter.

Here’s a newly fledged northern cardinal from a year ago. The others I tried to upload are too large. 😢

Three summers ago I was camping in the mountains of Alberta and we awoke each morning to silence -- maybe a distant jay or two. It was startling.
