In past years young bobcats were photographed in the winter time along the Madison River hunting ducks and being bobcats. This bobcat was photographed at the east end of Little America near the bridge over the Lamar River, before Slough Creek. A rare sighting, but also a young bobcat. Older bobcats wouldn't be so visible as the risks from larger, stronger predators would be much higher in full daylight. About 300 yards west of this bobcat, at the exact same time, the Junction Butte pack was working their most recent kill just out of sight two hundred yards south of the road. There is danger all around.

Great shot! I had the chance to go in the winter of 2011 on a snow coach ride that would have been there for the bobcats--everyone who went got shots of it--but I couldn't afford the airplane ticket at the time. Only bobcats I've ever seen were in Florida.

I've seen a few bobcats in Florida as well. This juvenile was just like those juveniles along the Madison. I saw three today in CA, photographed one.
