A bit of trivia about these birds - an amazing feat of endurance:
Bar-tailed Godwit flies from Alaska to Australia for the summer months here - a non-stop flight of over 10,000kms (6200miles) across the Pacific, the longest known non-stop flight of any bird! Here is an article showing where a Bar-tailed Godwit sets non-stop of 13,560kms or 8,400mils from Alaska to Tasmania!!!

Satellite tag data suggests five-month-old migratory bird did not stop during voyage which took 11 days and one hour to reach Tasmania

What an excellent image! Shocking how far these guys can fly without stopping. They much sleep as they fly? Do they have a very high glide ratio?
Hi Karen, Thanks for your comment. I'm certainly not qualified to answer your question. But feel that their shape must be one of the most aerodynamic shapes in the bird world.
