My interest has always been in lenses that provide the best overall image quality. Of the lenses you are considering I have owned both the 14-24 f2.8 and the 14-30mm f4.
I preferred hands down the quality of images I got from the 14-24. They were much more detailed and they also had a quality that impressed me. I feel that when I am using that lens I am getting the best potential n this format and focal length. The 14-24mm is one of my favorite lenses.
If you really want to sample what quality potential is out there and what it may mean to you, try renting a 135mm Plena and play around with it for a while. I have to warn you however that you can easily get addicted to the good stuff. Unfortunately the good stuff costs more and weighs more.
