Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) Infinite Decision Loop

Anyone else sometimes get stuck in an "GAS Decision Loop" or just me? 😂 I currently shoot with a Z50 and the f-mount 200-500mm and am planning to upgrade to the Z50ii. The current sale has me also considering the 400mm f4.5 (or 100-400 which is a separate sub-loop) for a super lightweight bird setup, which by total dollar value now has me in Z8 territory and reevaluating if a lightweight set up is really my priority. And the loop continues... 😂
You’ll be very happy with the Z50II.

DJI mini pro4. Bought a Mini 3 last year but never took it out of the box and finally sold it. Time to try again.
The Mini's are awesome. Photography is fun with them as you can put it in the strangest places. Don't think far away thing up by that branch or corner of a building etc. It's like having a flying tripod.

I use mine as a flying point and shoot, roof inspection, fishing scouting out what the edges of lakes look like or ocean for schools of fish and for images of us on motorcycles where I'll float it up in a good angle on a corner or something like that, I ride dual sports/ADV bikes so it's fun to float that drone in good places on trails.

I admit that I too have GAS. For 40 years I've had the Nikon monkey on my back. Started in the Army when I got my hands on a F2. dropped in on the hardstand and not only did it still work but I swear the light meter improved. From there it's been a continuing buy, sell and upgrade. Once I used the D4s I was beyond any help. I was just about through the crazy Z series upgrade of 2024 when I just broke down and got a Z 6iii so its other Z brothers would not be alone.

Today I'm retired and once again I gave into temptation. Hasselblad x2d. I saw its work and tried to avoid it on the web. It was just too good to me. I started to look it up online at every opportunity. B&H just let it pop up on every visit. I was weak. I'm looking at it now. It knows me. It wants another lens. Back to work............?

I saw a cartoon. A man is emptying the dish washer. His wife is leaning against the kitchen door. She says “You have doing more chores lately. What lens did you buy, and how much did it
Oh No he's bought another lens Meme GAS.jpg

Embarrassingly, I too get stuck in these infinite loops 🫣 I'm at the point where the 600PF is constant and isn't going anywhere, and the indecision is b/w the 100-400/400 4.5/180-600. Think I'm settling on the 100-400 though to compliment the 600PF into the future, as the 400 4.5 was serving too narrow of a purpose, and I don't want to carry around the 186 for only occasional use.

I actually have both the 100-400 and 180-600…and for me which goes on an outing depends on whether it’s a 1 or 2 body day…the lighter 100-400 goes along on 2 body days and the 18p-600 on single body or longer walk days.

I’m this close >< to getting another 180-600. For one-lens travel, I don’t think there’s any better option. Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly content with taking just the 600PF, but sometimes I want to be lazy 😂 On my maiden visit to Ft. DeSoto last April, the 600 performed well, but the zoom would have been the perfect choice.

Sometimes a zoom is the right option. I intended to use mine primarily for video but it has come in useful very often.

I was close, last year I owned all of them, though not quite at the same time. Now I’m down to the 600PF & 100-400, having just parted with the 400 4.5 a few days ago. And, thanks to analysis paralysis, I’m inoculated against buying either the 400 or 600TC, so no threat of GAS there 😅

True…and depending on the location, anticipated subject distance of I’ve been there before and walking distance either it or the 100-400 is my single lens option. Haven’t been to DeSoto since the storms…but it’s getting into nesting season so I gotta check and see if they’re fully reopened or not.
