White-crowned Sparrow

A summer visitor to the upland areas of the UK, the Whinchat.


A woodland resident the Treecreeper.



Found in the hills in summer and by the coast in winter the Stonechat.

The usual suspects today, woke up to a couple of inches of fresh snow and the birds were active at the feeders. Still after better bird in the snow photos but was pretty happy with these:

Now that I know where this family of Eastern Bluebirds lives I have been stalking them a bit and was able to catch the female on a branch near me.

Other angle, same lady. She was very cooperative for a while, then her husband called her home... the male won't stay put and I have yet to catch a good shot of him.

Goldcrest still coming into the garden and was a little shouty today.

Female Rufus checking out the salvia. Not as flamboyant as the males and other species but still a pretty little bird. D7500, Tamron 100-400, 1/2000, f6.3, ISO 400.

Thanks Ralph. The rear bird is soft but the story is worth it.

Snow is thick on my garden and the temperature -1C but the birds know Spring is on the way. Blackbirds are displaying and Robins setting out territory. This one captured through double glazing, must get around to cleaning the windows!

Brown throated sunbird I believe. Singapore Gardens by the Bay

This little ruby-crowned kinglet was nice enough to pose for me as it foraged through the leaves but it wouldn't show me his ruby crown. Oh well, maybe next time.

This hermit thrush sat still just long enough, and was just close enough, to try a photo.
