For the past 2 years this whale has entered into a harbour not far from where I live. He/she spends about 2 weeks during the end of May feeding on herring. The whale swims in very close to shore. I took these photos from the shore using the 500 end of my 200-500 lens. Needless to say, the whale draws a big crowd and this year caused a 5 hour long traffic jam (the main highway was closed for repair)! In honour of the name of the town with the harbour, the whale has been nicknamed the Holyrood whale. Holyrood is a 30 minute drive from St. John's, Newfoundland. The 3 photos are from one rise out of the water to feed on the herring. As usual, constructive comments are welcome.
